Members of the English and Portuguese-speaking congregations at Park Baptist Church joined together on Easter Sunday and marked the occasion with two baptisms

The packed-out church in Crown Road, switched between languages as they sang songs, prayed aloud and listened to readings. The sermon, preached by Rev Peter Timothy, was translated into Portuguese by fellow Pastor, Rev Leda Schofield

“I think occasions like today proves how people of different nationalities can not only co-exist with each other in Great Yarmouth, but actually thrive amidst their diversity”

The service finished with the baptism of two regular attendees of the English-speaking congregation, before cakes and refreshments were shared

It is not the first time the two congregations have joined together to worship, with a similar style service held last year. The church has been reaching out into and supporting the Portuguese-speaking immigrant community in the town for eight years, and has seen tremendous growth, with up to 50 people gathering at the weekly Saturday evening meetings
