Windswept Christians braved torrential rain to celebrate a rare baptismal service in the sea

Tuesday 7th July 2015

During the service, both shared stories of how they became Christians, and expressed their desire to follow the example and teaching of Jesus by being baptised

Rev Peter explained that baptism is the act of binding together into the body of Christ's people.  He encouraged all there to reflect and renew their own vows to continue to follow Jesus or for some perhaps to ask "Jesus are you there?  Are you real?"

The congregation then walked to the end of the pier to witness two young women from their congregation being baptised

Iona Nixon and Rebecca Worden became the first members of the church in over a decade to ditch the usual baptismal pool in the church in favour of the chilly North Sea (Rebecca pictured left and Iona below right)

Rev’d Peter Timothy, who conducted the service, said: “What an exciting and brave way to publicly declare your love for God”

bex-iona baptism 2015“Baptism is an important part of the Christian faith, and I’m delighted to have been able to share in that with Iona and Rebecca. To be baptised in the sea only increases the sense of drama and occasion that inevitably occurs when God’s Spirit is present”

Park Baptist Church meets every Sunday morning at 10:45, with visitors very welcome. More details about the church can be found online, at www.parkbaptist.church
