Pat is looking to increase her team for CAP

CAP money course 12-15Pat Hillier, Debt Centre Manager, is looking for people to get involved with the CAP (Chrisitans Against Poverty) initiative at Park and would love to hear from you if you are interested

Over a third of CAP clients considered or attempted suicide before contacting CAP service. The CAP plan is distinctive in that it enables clients to make one easy payment each month which CAP distribute on their behalf. A savings facility is also built in so each client can budget for their future needs and any unforeseen events

93% of clients describe CAP’s Debt help service as ‘life transforming’ or ‘a great help'

1,000 clients attended a free CAP client break in 2015 to spend time as a family and meet new people.

Debt centre manager makes 3 visits with a befriender, befriender then keeps in touch with the family, invites them to client events (which will be held every time we get 3 new families so about monthly.)

CAP roles
  • P.R. Contact papers, radio, TV to launch, updates when 20 families out of debt etc. Help available from CAP HQ, man CAP stands at events
  • Admin Print posters and put them up around the town, send invitations to client events
  • Community links Get in touch with agencies like job centre, CAB, Dial, council etc to ask them to refer people to CAP. Help available from CAP HQ. Fact sheet available
  • Budgeting Attend ‘Fund your church’ training day in London on 26th November, Keep an eye on CAP budget, raise funds for events, client travel to discovery breaks (holidays) (provided by CAP), encourage life changers (regular giving to CAP)
  • Befrienders Debt centre manager makes 3 visits with a befriender, helps them open a bank account if they haven’t got one, befriender then keeps in touch with the family offering friendship, emotional and practical support, bake cakes, make sure they’ve got enough food, take them a card/flowers, invites them to client events (which will be held every time we get 3 new families so about monthly.) Need at least 15 befrienders so each will have no more than 2 families at a time
  • Prayer team Pray for launch, pray for clients, pray for client events, funds etc, meet with Pat once a month for prayer updates
  • Events coordinators Suggest 2 or more teams who will organize client evangelistic events; we need to hold about one event a month each with opportunities to learn more about Jesus. If we had 3 teams they would organise 4 events a year, things like, curry night, fish and chip suppers, family fun days, film nights
  • Events team Again, it would be good to have at least 3 teams to help with events put on by coordinators
  • Evangelism and discipleship team Welcoming to church and coffee, giving out reading materials, Bibles etc., praying with and discipling new believers, would expect 12 new believers a year
